We realized earlier this week that we hadn’t done another installment of our Meet the Team mini-series in literally months (March and April where a whirlwind fo’ sho’) so we decided to rectify that!
Kiya, our native musician (she literally plays four instruments, y’all) has been kicking ass and taking names for years. She’s super calm, incredibly sweet, and has a truly impressive way of cussing people out in the most HR appropriate language possible! We know you’re gonna love her as much as we do!
Introduce yourself and your job role for us.
Hello, my name is Kiya Fitzgerald, and I am a career strategist here at 6 Figure Chick Consulting. I assist individuals in finding their perfect job by looking at their qualifications, what they've done in the past, what they're currently doing, and what they're looking to do in the future. My role is to bridge that gap in career development.
Where are you from?
I was born in Medina, NY, or the Rochester Buffalo area, where they get a lot of snow, but I was raised in Charlestown, West Virginia, near the Hollywood Casino.
When is your birthday and what's your zodiac sign?
My birthday is May 28th, making me a headstrong Gemini.
Tell us a little bit about your career experience.
I used to be a property manager and an assistant property manager. I went from helping people find apartments to helping them find their career paths in terms of education. I transitioned from a property manager to an admissions representative, helping people decide which major or degree they wanted to pursue, which correlates to what I do now.
Tell us about your most recent career transition and how you started working at 6 Figure Chick Consulting.
I started working for 6 Figure Chick Consulting because one of my friends worked here first, and I always wondered what she did. The more she told me about it, the more I loved it. At that point, I had already been following Shaque'l and 6 Figure Chick Consulting for about a year on social media. When I found out there were possible roles opening up in the future, I kept an eye out for them. The values and principles of the company aligned with what I love to do—helping people find jobs, which matches my background in HR. I love talking to people all day and helping them find their niche.
What's a piece of advice you would give someone making a career change or job transition?
A piece of advice I would give someone making a job change or transition is not to be afraid and not to always search for the money. When you do something you love, the money comes after. It may sound cliché, but if you're making money but miserable in your job, the money no longer seems worth it. Change what you want to do first, and the money will follow.
How has 6 Figure Chick Consulting changed your mindset/perspective?
My mindset is a lot more positive. Recruitment and HR can be a bit of a toxic beast, so trying to shift my mind out of that and unlearn those habits has been important. Now, I ask questions to understand and learn rather than just checking the box.
How has 6 Figure Chick Consulting impacted your lifestyle?
Working here has significantly impacted my personal life. My son is autistic and needs a lot of assistance, so having a flexible schedule to take him to therapy appointments is crucial. As a significant other, it has allowed me more time with my partner. It has also given me more time for self-care, which I lacked before.
What's your favorite color?
Sparkly black!
Favorite food?
Anything pasta-related and steak. I like a good well-done, almost crispy burnt steak.
Flats or drums?
In terms of chicken wings, I am all about flats with lots of chunky blue cheese. I know that grosses out my coworkers, but I don't care. I love blue cheese, the chunkier, the better.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy spending my free time with my son and my fiancé. My son, who is four, sees his mom as a superhero, and spending time with him is the funniest and most rewarding experience.
What do you love and/or appreciate most about Shaque’l?
What I love about Shaque’l is she's very blunt and funny. I love her deep voice, especially in the morning. She always makes a reference to it, and it cracks me up. She has a kind heart and is a genuinely giving and kind person. She loves with her whole heart and always sees the good in everybody, which I love about her.
I couldn't agree more. Thanks for sharing your story with us!
Of course! Thanks to everyone who made it all the way down here!
